ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING

ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING –
Engineered wood flooring is a composite flooring composed of a hardwood top piece fixed onto a softwood base. The hardwood top is around 4mm thick and the softwood base is around 8-10mm in thickness. These appear as planks of 150 to 200mm width and upto 1.5-2m in length. The advantage of this is that it is extremely durable, while giving a rich look and finish of wood.

The advantage of engineered wood is that it gives the same rich finish as that of wood while being much cheaper than full wood planks and is as durable as solid wood planks. Also, these days, it is difficult to obtain real wood planks to be used as flooring, unless you are willing to shell out an exorbitant amount of money.
Also, all engineered wood floors are pre-finished. Hence no sanding or polishing is required after laying, and thus the floor can be walked over immediately.
One advantage of engineered wood flooring over laminate flooring is that it can be sanded in a limited manner to remove scratches. Also, it is more durable than laminate flooring and will not get damaged in slight moisture areas.
INSTALLATION
The planks are fixed using an interlocking system of tongue and grooves and are laid over a foam cushion backing. There are special skirting pieces and also special trims to provide at the end of the flooring.
COMMON FINISHES –
Oak, Maple, Walnut, Sapelli, Bamboo etc.
