VENEERS –

Veneers are thin sheets of the surface layer of wood. These come in thickness of 0.8 to 1mm and are usually pasted on top of a base layer to replicate original solid wood. They are mainly used for doors, furnitures, panelling etc. Veneers are natural products and can be polished to create the rich look of wood.

Veneers are especially useful in today’s world where natural solid wood is scare and exorbitantly priced. But more importantly, they can reduce the cutting down of trees for solid wood.

DESIGNS –

Veneers are available in all the natural woods. Veneers come from original woods and hence there will be all the natural variations associated with wood like differences in grain, pattern, knots, colour etc. These can be reduced to a great extent by selecting veneers from a single batch.

These days, artificial composed veneers are available, having the same patterns and grains, or even sometimes having no grain at all. Even colour dyed veneers are available in the market today. But they do not have the same beauty of natural wood.

 SIZES –

Veneers usually come either as boards or as rolls(Fleece).

The thin veneers are usually pasted onto 3mm plywood and come in standard size of 8’ x 4’ boards of 4mm thick. These can be cut to size and pasted onto bases like mdf, plywood etc.

PRICE RANGE –

Prices of veneers range from Rs.40/sq.ft for the normal timbers to over Rs.70/sq.ft for the exotic varieties like Wenge.

DONT’S –

Veneers are interior products and are not to be exposed to direct sunlight and moisture, to prevent fading and damage. Hence they are not to be used in external doors, inner side of bathroom doors etc.
